Proserpine Hospital

Major Proserpine Hospital redevelopment, in the Whitsunday Shire, tropical North Queensland.

architectural illustrationA redevelopment of Proserpine Hospital was undertaken by Peddle Thorp Architects who engaged James Riddell Architect to help facilitate the project locally and to administer the construction stages of the project. The redevelopment involved providing a new 42 bed regional hospital, while the existing buildings became administrative offices and Allied Health.

Later, James Riddell Architect were engaged to expand the student and intern accommodation facilities at the hospital.

architectural illustrationMore recently, in 2006, the hospital again engaged James Riddell Architect to design and integrate a CAT Scan Facility as an addition to the existing building. The design incorporates staff offices, ultrasound room, x-ray viewing areas, CAT Scan Unit and storage facilities linked directly to the trauma and emergency unit. On a tight budget we were able to reuse a number of items already existing and reorganised the internal spaces to suit an upgrade to digital radiology. Liasing with a committee of doctors, nurses, radiologists and support services we were able to prioritise the needs of the Hospital and its staff to work more efficiently in this particular unit. This work is expected to be completed in early 2007, providing an important health facility for the Whitsunday community.
